In choosing your class and category options, the first major distinction is between types of work.
- Audio Productions include spoken works, with or without music or sound effects, that are broadcast over the air or distributed by satellite, cable, or Internet. Live broadcasts, livestreams and prerecorded audio productions such as news stories, radio programs, podcasts and the like fit in this grouping.
- Audio-visual Productions include any broadcast or digitally-distributed production that uses imagery and sound to relay its message. This includes traditional television programs, webcasts, made-for-TV films, video productions made for digital distribution and such. Major motion pictures–movies produced for release in theaters–are included in this type and make up their own class. Productions for Social Media also have their own class here.
- Images fall into one of two classes: Photography or Illustration.
- Written Works encompass such endeavors as news and magazine articles, books and more.
Each Entry Group contains classes:
- Audio Productions

Once you select your class, you will be prompted for additional information. These options combine to define the category of your entry. Classes may include one or more of these options:
- Subject area: Is your work hard news? A human interest story? Subject options vary by class. Choose the “Opinion” category for editorials, columns, reviews, commentary and such.
- Format: If your work is only, or primarily, published in a traditional format, choose “Printed” (for Written Works or Images) or “Broadcast” (A/V and Audio works). For our purposes, “broadcast” includes over-the-air (OTA), satellite and cable transmissions. If your work is only distributed over the Internet, choose “Digital-only.”
- Audience: This option only appears for the Books class. It allows you to specify if the work is for a general audience or youth.
- Market: What is the general geographic size of your market?
- Publisher: This option describes the size of your publisher. It allows us to recognize outstanding work by internationally-acclaimed authors while also discovering rising stars.
- Length: Some categories are defined in part by their length. This could be in terms of minutes or approximate word count.
- Single or Series: Each category breaks down further into a single work or series of planned works with a common theme or purpose and by the same author(s).
When you fill out the entry form, it will help you drill down to the best Class and Category options.
